AE Area

In response to Mary’s blog post on what the AEs should do in terms of decorating their area, I decided to do some searching of my own.  I found this website with an article of some ideas-some lame and some pretty cool (http://www.isnare.com/?aid=69030&ca=Business+Management).  What I liked best was the idea about putting up a mural.  Check out the link: http://www.muralsyourway.com/.  There are lots of cool ones to choose from.  If Amber were to choose the above would be hers.

Commitment Phobic Wall Decor

There’s been an ongoing discussion in the AE area about how to decorate this part of the office in a fun, visually pleasing way. Some ideas have involved plants, big patio umbrellas, white lights, and a disco ball to go with Mitchell and Charles’ music. Okay, so maybe not the disco ball but all others were thrown out there.

Clearly, we haven’t come up with anything that’s stuck — hence the reason for the decor-free area.

Amber showed me this site yesterday that I totally dig! She used this type of decor in Nate’s room and said that it’s really great. Mo’s been asking for different types of ideas and feedback on what we’d like in our little home away from home. What do you guys think about this type of wall art as an option for our space?

The noises of eROI

Today marks exactly 3 months (now as I am finally finishing and putting up this post, 16 weeks) that I have officially been working here at eROI.

For any of you that are still learning everyone’s name at eROI or do not know who I am, I am Kelsey; the individual that sits next to Ryan’s office and watches all who dare to enter the building via the bio-polar elevator.  As this area is the receptionist area, there is a wall located behind me that blocks off all of my views to the rest of the eROI world.  This area also contains a humungous air conditioning unit that looks very similar to a giant elephant trunk, yet gurgles like a dying cat on occasion.  There is the coffee maker located to my direct right that is constantly running as some individuals interveinously digest World Cup Coffee as if they can never quite reach that caffeine high they want so badly to obtain.  There is also the constant flushing of toilets to my back right as a result of those caffeine addicted coffee drinkers having to go to the bathroom 27,000 times daily to make room in their bladder for more black stuff.  Then there is the quiet pitter patter of Ryan’s feet going down the stairs-slow and quiet enough to seem as if he is preparing to leap out from behind the wall to scare me.  The last noise that I can always count on on a typical day at eROI is the sound of Sydney’s 4 inch heel slaps on the hardwood floor as she clinks down the stairs-I always know which days Syd isn’t working.

These are just a few of the many noises I have grown accustom to.  Needless to say, sitting in this location has really allowed me to perfect at least one of my senses.

World of Goo is Amazing

I recently stumbled upon a fascinating piece of software titled World of Goo developed by 2D Boy.  From a design standpoint (one of my expertisesnesses), there are few games that stand out like Goo.  Each level is intricately designed to capture your imagination and take over your dreams.  The world is built upon creating your own design to complement each level.  Possibilities are endless.

Basicgame mechanics involve shaping a group of Goo balls into functional objects.  The player will take some Goos to build a bridge, spider web or wheel to save the unused balls from destruction.  The moment I first loaded Goo, it reminded me of a fun version of Lemmings.  The concept is similar to the PC throwback, without the alternative satisfaction of watching your Lemmings fall to their deaths.  In this game, you actually want to save as many Goo balls as you can.  I found myself falling in love with these balls.

The 2D Boy site has the look and feel of a basic Wordpress site utilizing dozens of unique design elements that appear throughout the game.  The content of their site captures the spirit of creators Kyle Garber and Ron Carmel, former developers from EA.  What they have built in the World of Goo is a seamless and fully alive world unlike any other.  They have set the bar extremely high for Independent Game Developers.

If you want to experience the magic of World of Goo, download the demo and enjoy one of the most visually immersing game experience since the first time you played Mario64.  The demo is in Uploads.

Keep Portland…Irish?

I know that we have mainy similarities to the green isle across the Atlantic, but what I saw last week might be the signs of things to come (or it was Sam testing out his Halloween costume for this year)
